The baby shower: this slightly more innocent cousin to the Hen Party is shooting up on the popularity scale. If you have a expecting friend it could be your duty to throw her a party, complete with food, presents, and baby inspired décor. Feeling intimidated? Don’t fear, our guide to hosting the perfect baby shower is here to help…
Try Something Different with the Venue
We love the idea of thinking outside the box when it comes to your baby shower venue, making sure it is an occasion that everyone will remember. The wildlife at Bristol Zoo or Wildspace could provide a fun and different backdrop to the event, and you could encourage guests to bring animal inspired baby gifts to fit your theme! If the weather is nice why not pack a picnic and head to one of Bristol’s fantastic parks? Our favourites are Brandon Hill Park, Eastville Park, or the stunning grounds of Ashton Court. For a more sheltered, but equally unique, venue why not hire our beautiful Georgian lounge area at Caffe Clifton? Hire of the space is free when you purchase one of our great value event menus, which start from as little as £3.50.
Ensure you have some entertaining activities planned
Ensuring that there is plenty of exciting entertainment on hand is another great way to make sure your baby shower sticks in people’s memories. Playing a few silly games is a great way to get everyone in a good mood, and provides some fantastic photo opportunities. Our favourites include ‘Guess the baby food flavour’ where the mother-to-be is blindfolded and has to try different flavours of baby food, ideally adorned with a bib and a plastic spoon! Or if you are feeling creative, challenge your guests to build the tallest tower they can out of disposable nappies or cotton wool. This can quickly turn into a hot competition if two teams are set up to race each other.
Make sure the food and drink is up to scratch
No event is complete without some tasty snacks and drinks. Take your offerings one stage further with these easy to make baby shower inspired recipes…
Coconut candy rattles. Wow your guests and satisfy their sweet tooth at the same time with these cute mini rattles.
Just because the mother to be can’t drink, doesn’t mean you can’t have exciting beverages. Home-made Mocktails are a great choice to make the occasion feel special, we are loving Blueberry and Mint iced Tea or this delicious Lavender Honeysuckle Fizz.
New born babies devilled eggs. We are not sure if we are really serious about this one. But if you do have the time (and the patience) these are sure to bring a smile to your guest’s faces!
Ensure that the mother to be has a keep-sake to takeaway
As well as of course receiving gifts for the new baby at her baby shower, your mother-to-be is going to want to have something she can keep to remind her of this special day with her friends. As mentioned, you are bound to get some entertaining photos if you go down the silly games route, so why not put these together in a photo album for the mother-to-be to keep? Another lovely idea is to book one of Pottery on Wheels’ fantastic pottery experiences. Sarah’s mobile pottery studio can come to your house or a venue of your choice, complete with a full sized pottery wheel! You can make several beautiful items at one of these experiences, and Sarah likes to ensure the host has something special to take away from the day, such as a stunning pottery bowl made from heart shapes crafted by each of the guests. After the event Sarah will take all your creations away to make sure they are beautifully glazed and finished. She is also meticulous about covering furniture with oil cloths and cleaning up afterwards, so you can rest assured your host’s house will remain clean (until the baby comes anyway!).
Have a post shower celebration planned!
This may be slightly sneaky, but its definitely something you should consider. After all the hard work you have put in as a party planner it seems unfair to skip out on a cheeky tipple just because the mother-to-be has to pass! Recruit your favourite (non pregnant!) guests and head out for post-shower celebration. Racks bar and Kitchen serve prosecco for only £2.50 Mon-Fri 12-7pm, making it a perfect stop off on the way home for that well deserved glass of bubbly.
